Considering Dave Rader hasn’t even been in football for six out of the past 10 years, his appointment as the Ole Miss co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach could be viewed as unorthodox. But for Rebels coach Houston Nutt, it all makes perfect sense. “I was looking for a guy who had a lot of quarterback experience,” Nutt said. “We have two young quarterbacks and I wanted to make sure they got the best possible teacher.” Rader, 52, has spent the past three years in private business in Tulsa. He doesn’t have the typical coaching background, with a degree in mechanical engineering and aspirations of running for political office in Oklahoma. – Clarion-Ledger
