Memphis Assistant Chachere Hired at Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats will reopen spring drills today with a new assistant coach. Garret Chachere was announced today as the Wildcats’ new inside wide receivers coach. He replaces Michael Smith, who left earlier this month for a similar position at Kansas State. “We’re excited to have Garret join our program. He brings a strong coaching résumé and I know he is excited to begin working with our players,” UA coach Mike Stoops said in a University news release. “He will bring great enthusiasm to our program and continue to develop our wide receivers.” – Arizona Daily Star

Clemson Hires Brooks as DL Coach

For the first time in his brief tenure, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney went beyond the Alabama tree to hire an assistant from outside the program. Former Tennessee defensive line coach Dan Brooks has agreed to take the same job at Clemson, multiple sources said Monday. If their word wasn’t good enough, Brooks attended the Tigers’ practice later in the evening. – The State

Gators’ Foley Dodges Hurricanes

Miami proposed playing Florida in football twice every four years so every player can experience one home game against the Gators. ”Currently, there are no plans to play Miami past the 2013 game,” UF athletic director Jeremy Foley wrote in an e-mail. ”This may change, but if it did, it would not be on a schedule of twice every four years.” Foley denied broadcast speculation that UF wants to escape the 2013 game at Dolphin Stadium.
